What's new in 2.0 — Part 2
Part 2 of 2.0. These changes are part of version 2.0, which is installed fresh: it does not open the data of 1.2.1 (see What's new in 2.0). Where this page speaks of installing it over your current version, or of a first start that backs up and updates your data, that is how later updates of 2.0 install.
This version lets the app keep working in the background, prepares automatic updates, shows all your connections on one page, and makes backups and restores of large installations faster and clearer. How you work does not change. Install it over your current version like any update: the first start backs up your data, then updates your databases once (your figures stay exactly as they are). See How to install an update.
The app can keep working in the background
- Background mode. An Admin can switch on Keep running in the tray in Settings › Operational › Background mode (all companies). Closing the last window still signs you out, but the app stays in the system tray, so the automatic backups and the daily e-mails go on. Click the tray icon to open a window; Quit on its menu (or File › Quit (close all windows)) stops everything. See Background mode.
- Start with Windows. With background mode on, each Windows user can choose to have the app start in the tray when they sign in to Windows.
- When the app runs in the tray and you start it again, a window opens with the sign-in page.
Automatic updates (coming soon)
- Settings › Updates has an Automatic updates card. When your vendor offers automatic updates, an Admin can switch on Install new versions automatically: the app then checks once a day, downloads a new version and installs it when the app is closed (or at once with Restart and update now). Only updates signed by the software publisher are installed, and the new version backs up your data before it changes anything. Until then the card shows Coming soon. See Automatic updates.
- On an installation for all users of the PC, an update installs only when you click Install update, and Windows asks for an administrator to approve it.
All your connections on one page
- Settings › Integrations now opens on Connections: every connection of the company with its status (Connected, Turned off, Not set up, Needs attention), when it last synced and its last error. See How to check your connections.
- The Walmart card under Marketplaces shows when it last synced and whether the last sync failed.
- Trying a connection early. Your software provider can switch on a Coming soon connection for your installation only, for up to 90 days, with a test unlock file you install in Settings › License. See Trying a connection before its release.
Backups and restores of large installations
- A bar shows how far a backup or a restore has got, with what it is doing. You can keep working while a backup runs, also in other windows.
- One at a time. Only one backup or restore runs at a time; a second one says so and waits for you to try again. The hourly automatic backup skips its turn while one runs.
- Any size. The old size limit for restores is gone: before a restore replaces anything, the app checks that the drive has enough free space and says how much it needs if not. Restore from File works with backup files of any size. See How to restore a backup.
- Factory Reset cleans up completely. It now also deletes the company folders left in a data folder this installation used before. Backups are never touched. See How to start over (Factory Reset).
Import your eBay and Etsy reports (Beta)
If you also sell on eBay or Etsy, Sales Import now links to an eBay Import and an Etsy Import page. They read the files you download from eBay Seller Hub (the Orders report and the Transaction report) and from Etsy's Shop Manager (the Order Items file and the monthly statement). Each file is checked before anything is saved: an eBay payout must add up, an Etsy statement must match the month's net you type from Etsy's statement page, and a row the app does not know is kept apart as Unclassified instead of being guessed. Their orders and fees are kept apart from your other marketplaces. Both pages are marked Beta until a real file from a beta tester has been checked with them. See Chapter 7.
If you bought through a reseller
- Request a free trial names your reseller and their support e-mail (and website) instead of the vendor, so you know whom to ask. See How to request a free trial.
Updating your data
- The first start of this version updates your databases once, after the backup before the update. It adds what the new features need and changes none of your figures: stock, costs, sales, settlements and profit stay exactly as they were. A backup made by this version cannot be restored by an older one.
